I originally went on the search for a new heating pad last year because the cheap one I was using had a cover that had shrunken in the wash and the sharp plastic corners of the pad stuck out and poked me. I have arthritis in my hips and back, so once I saw that this pad not only is one plush piece (no sharp edges!) and big enough to cover a large portion of my back, I was sold. Now, almost a year later, I'm back to order another one so I can keep one plugged in by the bed and one by the sofa (or use two at once on days my whole body aches!)PROS: It's a great size! Perfect to cover my lower back and hips, or wrap around my legs or feet. It's SOFT. I love the plush cover, and I especially love that all the edges and corners are covered. It heats up FAST. It has 8 heat settings, but is usually hot enough for me at 3 or 4. I can leave it on if I'm camped out on the sofa for hours, or let auto-off shut it down after two hours so it's not on all night after I fall asleep. The control panel lights up when you hit a button, so you can change the settings in the dark. It has a good long cord so I'm not tied to the wall. This basically has everything I'm looking for in a heating pad. (My cat loves it too, incidentally!)CONS: So far I've only found one downside! As other reviewers have stated, it does have an awkwardly large plug right at the edge of the pad. This is so you can unplug it and throw the whole thing in the washer (I haven't had to, yet, so I can't say how well it holds up to a wash.) Depending on your positioning, this plug can be uncomfortable to lean on. However, the heating pad is so big, I've figured out how to position it so the plug doesn't really get in my way.TL;DR: If you suffer from chronic pain, this heating pad is a life changer. Buy one. In fact, buy two!EDIT Aug 2017: I've now washed this heating pad a few times just by tossing it in with my clothes on cold cycle and drying on medium. I hang it for a few hours to be sure it's completely dry before plugging back in. Other than a slight flattening of the plush surface from continued use, it's good as new!
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT, EMAIL SUNBEAM DIRECTLY!!!First of all, I’ve had this for almost 3 years. It finally went kaput, so I emailed Sunbeam, just inquiring about the warranty & letting them know what happened, and boom: one day, a new one is sitting on my front porch!!! Wow! I’m a customer for life. This particular heating pad is, after trying another in the meantime, far superior to others! It’s not huge, but good enough for my needs. What I love the most about this is that it’s so incredibly soft. It’s not chunky, awkward plastic, but cushy, malleable, and feels like it’s almost not there, except for the relief. You can control the time. I’ve never had a problem with that. I do keep it plugged directly into the wall outlets, no extension cords!!! That contributes to the life of the product. My mishap came after washing, so maybe be careful as far as that goes.As with any heating pad, don’t overuse it.
This is the best heating pad I've tried so far.The fabric is connected to the lining so there's no uncomfortable bunching. However, drawback is you can't throw the cover in a washing machine if it gets dirty. Spot clean only.I'm kind of small but it covers so much more surface area and much more effectively than other ones I've tried. I think the heat stops about an inch from the edge unlike 1.5"+ on others. It turns itself off after 2 hours which is nice because my others turn off after 30 minutes. The 6 different heat settings really do come in handy. I find myself slowly cycling down from a 6 to a 1 times like when it's cold and I'm trying to warm up and ease pain once I get in bed. This seems to have some sort of temperature control where it turns off for short periods of time to maintain a steady temp because I have very rarely ever felt that it was getting dangerously hot under me. I have another one that feels like you turn it on and it just keeps getting hotter and hotter and hotter until it shuts off after 30 minutes. I'd have to move it after such a short time because I'd legitimately fear it was burning me or my bed. You're not supposed to lay on top of any of these heating pads so I do not recommend it, but just saying, I think this one has better protection against the potential for burns. Plus since you have more temperature options you can pick an appropriate temp easier. The cord is detachable which is convenient for protecting the cord in storage and I suppose for preventing burns or fires. The only drawback is that if it becomes unplugged accidentally and you plug it back in, it won't let you turn it back on until you unplug it completely from the outlet/power source. This might be a problem if you're going to be using a hard to reach outlet. And it can unplug itself pretty easily if you move it around a lot. It's kind of annoying when I'm trying to sleep and I shift and the cord detaches from the pad.All in all, I highly recommend it to anyone.
I've been using for two years and it really helps me go to sleep. I put it on the highest setting 6 when I first go to bed and then lower it to 3 or 4 before I fall asleep. You can also set it to turn off after 2 hours. My cat loves it and I turn it on the lowest setting 1 for her to sleep on it after I get out of bed in the morning.
I suffer from chronic pain and use a heating pad daily (often multiple times a day). I have purchased 6 of this specific one over the last 6 years and given them as gifts as well. Considering the usage, it is not surprising that it fails after 6 months or so. It is well worth $5/month for the relief I get. The various heating levels are effective and I appreciate the 2-hour automatic cutoff as I often fall asleep while using. I've occasionally tried another brand/cheaper model. They don't compare. If you need heat for relief, treat yourself well.
